Shawnee Baker
Executive Director, Co-Founder
Shawnee was born and raised, in a small town north of Toronto. As a graduate of Georgian College, she launched her career as a Registered Nurse.
Shawnee moved to the US on a work visa when hospitals were closing across Canada. Shawnee worked at Valley Regional Medical Center, in Brownsville, TX, where she trained in the NICU, and moved to San Antonio, where she worked at Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Shawnee returned to Toronto after Baylie was born, the youngest of her three babies. She worked in various hospitals in Southern Ontario, including Toronto’s world-renowned Hospital for Sick Children in the NICU.
Over the years Shawnee expanded her nursing specialty and transitioned to the emergency room where she acquired trauma nursing skills.
Shawnee has been on both sides of the coin in the ICU setting, first as a nurse, and sadly, as a mother. She knows the unbearable heartache and understands the tough decisions
Shawnee met her current husband Scott while working in Boston, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. They moved to the Seacoast of New Hampshire with Shawnee’s daughter Baylie.
Shawnee and her two sons, Mickenzie and Tristan, now carry Baylie’s legacy. Her boys reside, in Calgary Alberta, where they both have successful careers.
Shawnee has honored Baylie’s wish and kept her promise to Baylie. And against all odds, Baylie kept her promise to her mother. Shawnee and Scott are raising two little girls, publishing a book, and starting a foundation in Baylie’s name.
